On January 24-25, 2022, as part of the International Mediation Week, a Conference was held to disseminate the results of the EU Erasmus + MEDIATS project “Mediation: Learning and Transforming Society”, organized by the CROC Business School.
Participants of the MEDIATS project from the Netherlands, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Germany arrived at the conference, project participants in Spain and Latvia were available online. As listeners following the development of mediation and conflict management in Ukraine, more than 450 people registered for the conference, who attended the event offline and online.
Anatoliy Frantsuz, Hero of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Vice-Rector of the University of Economics and Law "KROK" delivered a welcoming speech to the participants of the conference.
On the first day of the conference, presentations of the best practices of the project partners took place - speeches by participants from three countries - Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, namely 7 universities - the CROC Business School of the CROC University of Economics and Law, the Karazin School of Business of Kharkiv National University. V.N. Karazin, Yuriy Fedkovich Chernivtsi National University, School of Economics and Management of Khazar University (Azerbaijan), Ganja State University (Azerbaijan), Ilya State University (Georgia), Batumi State University named after. Shota Rustaveli (Georgia).
Olga Karpova, director of the KROK Business School, shared an experience in creating and implementing a master's program in mediation and conflict resolution. It is positive that the third group of students started their studies in November 2021, which is evidence of the sustainability of the project. Professor Jan Van Zwieten, President of the Netherlands Business Academy, representatives of the TURIBA Business University (Latvia), the University of San Antonia (Spain) and the National ERASMUS+ Office in Ukraine addressed the conference participants. Also, representatives of Azerbaijan and Georgia exchanged experience in the development of mediation in their countries.
The second day of the conference was devoted to the development of mediation in Ukraine. Petr Patsurkivsky, Ph.D. Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, member of the working group from ChNU named after. Yuri Fedkovich of the ERASMUS grant project. The report "Ensuring the quality of mediation services" was made by Natalia Mazaraki, Doctor of Law, Professor, Head of the Department of International, Civil and Commercial Law of KNTEU. Representatives of the National Association of Mediation, the League of Mediators of Ukraine, the Association of Family Mediators, the Federation of Mediators of Ukraine are invited to participate in the conference. The community of mediators - Ekaterina Narovskaya, Natalia Mazaraki, Anna Zubacheva, Svetlana Stadnik, Anzhela Krichina - shared information about the activities of organizations offering mediation services, talked about trends, training and advanced training of mediators, and also did not ignore the Law adopted at the end of last year Ukraine "On mediation". The presentations were followed by a panel discussion and a question and answer session.
The third and fourth blocks of conferences were devoted to workshops from the leading teacher-mediators of Ukraine, the Netherlands, Spain and Georgia. The workshops were designed for both mediators and business representatives. Those who were interested in practical conflict resolution skills joined the workshop marathon, where Oleg Triboi spoke on the topic “Business mediation”, Oksana Sedashova “Psychological skills of a leader in predicting and resolving conflicts”, Svetlana Stadnik “Mediation with one participant - consulting ”, Yanina Nedashkovskaya “Conversation in raised tones: how to reduce the degree and prevail over the conflict”, Olga Karpova “International Mediation Center”. The workshop marathon ended with a lively panel discussion, where the speakers shared their views on the role of the mediator, the formation and development of the profession of a mediator in Ukraine, as well as the topic of whether a business should learn mediation.
During participation in the EU Erasmus + MEDIATS project “Mediation: Learning and Transforming Society”, KROK Business School gained new knowledge and the following results:
A powerful professional program "Master of Mediation and Conflict Management", the program "Basic Mediator Skills" was developed and implemented,
An upcoming plans of the International Mediation Center include the creation and maintenance of a register of mediators, the assessment, certification and advanced training of mediators, the development of one- and two-day trainings for mediators and the creation of opportunities for deepening knowledge and skills in the field of conflict resolution for HRs and business representatives, expanding the international cooperation.
