On October 24, 2024, Olga Karpova, Executive director and Oksana Sedashova, Associate professor of the Department of management and innovative development of KROK Business School, member of ASDE, took part in the 4th International Forum on Sustainable Development, which was organized by ASDE - the Association of Experts on Sustainable Development. More than 200 offline participants and 800 online participants took part in the Forum. Today, in the world of challenges and threats facing humanity, the issue of sustainable development is crucial! Wars and natural disasters have rocked the world, is it possible to resist them? What legacy are we passing on to our future generations?
ASDE with Forum’s partners aims to bring together the stakeholders in Ukraine’s and EU's business and financial sectors for a frank and practical discussion on what should be done for the green recovery of Ukraine. For more than two years the country faced unprecedented circumstances and negative impacts
on all spheres of society and the environment. Urgent support is needed to mitigate the effect of the ongoing war and the recent massive bombardments of the critical infrastructure that impacted globally for the world. The global challenge is to find a way to support economic development in line with the EU agenda stimulating sustainable investing. Speakers, representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the National Bank, international organizations such as the UN Compact, UNDP, UNIDO and others shared their recommendations and opinions on the following topics:
- EU accession of Ukraine - what's needed for economic growth based on sustainable development principles
- Role and impact of donors during the war and post-war recovery – what programs and plans are delivering?
- Unlocking finance and partnerships for recovery and SDG action–how can it be done?
- ESG disclosure as an avenue for social and economic change –how to get all stakeholders onboard?
Ukraine strives to join the EU and it strives to bring international investors to help rebuild the country in line with the EU sustainability requirements. These efforts of the Ukrainian government and civil society must be tangible, and long-lasting, considering the best interests of the next generations. Therefore, the principles of environmental and social governance will serve as a tremendous driver of a sustainable recovery of the country, this includes the transition to a climate-resilient and low-carbon economy and helping mobilize green capital.
It is important for representatives of the educational community to spread information about the principles and goals of sustainable development, to understand how to incorporate sustainable development issues into educational programs, and to join various initiatives that will help in the recovery of the country.
