In December 2024, KROK Business School hosted a meeting with Professor Jan Van Zwieten, Rector of the Netherlands Business Academy, Professor at the Netherlands Defense Academy, Master of Military Management, and an international expert in mediation and conflict resolution. He met with Olga Karpova, Executive Director of KROK Business School, Oksana Sedashova, Program Director of the Master's Program in Mediation and Conflict Resolution, and Andriy Lotaryev, Director of the Institute of International Education.
During the meeting, Professor Van Zwieten emphasized the urgent need to prepare for conflict resolution at all levels, as conflicts in Ukraine are increasing exponentially. Interestingly, mediation in the Netherlands began in 1995, but it was only in 2012 that the country revised its quality system for training professional mediators.
Today, the basics of mediation are taught to all lawyers, city mayors, politicians, and CEOs in the Netherlands. The country conducts about 200,000 mediations annually! Professor Van Zwieten paid special attention to military veterans, sharing his experience of how mediators in the Netherlands work with military personnel who have been on various missions abroad and separated from their families for long periods. Currently, there are many conflicts between military and civilians, between spouses, and involving children. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly review the content of the educational and professional program "Mediation and Conflict Resolution" to reflect current realities, conduct surveys, and communicate with both the mediation community and consumers of educational services.
The participants agreed on further cooperation and the involvement of Professor Jan Van Zwieten in the implementation of the Master's Program in Mediation and Conflict Resolution as a guest professor and expert. KROK Business School representatives thanked Professor Van Zwieten for his valuable advice and insights on the relevance of the program's content.
Let's continue to develop our partnership!
